Tuition
Equalization
Grant
A
$900
Grant
from
the
State
of
Georgia
for
undergraduate
Georgia
residents
attending
private
colleges
in
Georgia.
For
Georgia
Grant
purposes,
Summer
2006
begins
the
2005-2006
year.
Students
may
only
receive
this
grant
for
a
total
of
127
semester
hours.
To
be
eligible
for
this
grant,
the
student
(and
parents
of
dependent
students)
must
be a
United
States
citizen
or
permanent
resident
that
has
resided
in
the
State
of
Georgia
for
at
least
one
full
year
prior
to
the
date
of
registration
for
any
particular
semester.
The
Georgia
Tuition
Equalization
Grant
is
not
based
on
need
and
any
qualified
Georgia
resident
who
is
enrolled
full-time
(12
or
more
hours
a
semester)
is
eligible.
These
grants
will
reduce
other
full
tuition
awards

receive.

students
receive
$3,000
per
academic
year

HOPE

allowance

Scholarship
recipients).
Georgia
high
school
graduates
who
are
named
HOPE
Scholars
by
the
Georgia
Student
Finance
Authority
may
receive
this
scholarship.
A
cumulative
3.0
GPA
is
required
for
renewal
and
for
students
who
wish
to
enter
the
program
after
30,
60,
or
90
cumulative
attempted
hours.
Students
must
maintain
a
cumulative
GPA
of
3.0
at
Mercer
each
year
(not
counting
"plus"
grades...e.g.
B+,
C+).
Plus
grades
will
be
counted
as
whole
letter
grades
(e.g.
B,
C,
etc.).
The
Georgia
Tuition
Equalization
Grant
Application
serves
as
the
student's
application
for
the
HOPE
Scholarship
for
private
colleges
in
Georgia.
Effective
Fall
2004,
HOPE
Scholarship
recipients
at
private
colleges
and
universities
can
attend
half-time
(at
least
6 to
11
semester
hours)
and
receive
a
HOPE
Scholarship
of
$1,500
per
academic
year
($750
per
semester).
Students
must
be
enrolled
half-time
15
calendar
days
after
the
end
of
the
drop-add
period
to
receive
the
half-time
HOPE
Scholarship.
Effective
spring
semester
2005,
students' HOPE
gpa
will
be
evaluated
at
the
end
of
every
spring
semester,
regardless
of
the
number
of
attempted
hours.
Students
earning
less
than
a
3.0
cumulative HOPE
gpa
after
spring
semester
may
lose
eligibility
for HOPE
until
the
next
entry
point
(30,
60,
or
90
semester
hours)
in
which
their HOPE
gpa
is
at
least
3.0.
A
student
who
does
not
have
sophomore/junior/senior
status
because
of
withdrawing
from
classes
will
still
be
evaluated
based
on
the
number
of
total
classes
he/she
has
attempted;

student
may
receive
a
"W"
or
"F"
in a
course,
not

credit
for
the

Georgia
Governor's
Scholarship
Georgia
high
school
students
who
graduate
as
Georgia
Scholars,
Valedictorians,
Salutatorians
or
STAR
Students may
receive
the
Governor's
Scholarship.
The
annual
scholarship
amount
is
$900
for
the
2005-2006
academic
year
and
applications
are
mailed
directly
to
the
student
from
the
Georgia
Student
Finance
Authority.
To
maintain
eligibility
after
the
freshman
year,
students
must
submit
a
renewal
application
along
with
an
official
transcript,
enroll
full-time
each
semester
in
at
least 30
hours for
Fall
and
Spring
semesters
combined
(for
example
15
hours
Fall
and 15
hours
Spring),
maintain
a
3.0
GPA
"plus"
grades
will
be
counted
as
whole
grades),
and
earn
at
least
30
hours
for
every
two
semesters
of
enrollment.

Teacher
Scholarship
Undergraduates
with
a
3.0
GPA may
apply
for a
PROMISE
Service
Cancelable
Loan
of
$3,000
during
their
junior
year
and $3,000
during
their
senior
year.

Scholarship

must
teach
one
academic
year
in a
Georgia
public
school
for
each
$1,500

Scholarships.

residency

required.

Engineering

Qualified
students
receive
$3,500
per
academic
year. These
funds
are
awarded
on a
"first
come,
first
serve"
basis and
a
separate
SEE
application
must
be
completed
in
order
for
the
student
to
be
considered
for
SEE.

For
each
calendar
year
the
student
is
employed
as
an
Engineer
in
the
State
of
Georgia,
$3,500

repaid

service
